My New Chin

At the end of May 2008 I went in to Utah Surgical Arts and had a Chin Implant done. The surgery itself was pretty quick (30 minutes to put in the new chin, 30 minutes to put me back together) but it was nice that I was out the whole time. I figure about 5 seconds is all I lasted once they put the sleepy juice in my arm. I was out like a light.

Upon waking up I was very groggy and quite sleepy, but I was told to stay awake. My sister came and picked me up and took me home, with a quick stop at Jamba Juice for some dinner as I hadn't eaten all day. When I got home I sat down on the couch and fell asleep pretty quickly.

The first few days were honestly... pretty miserable. My chin was completely numb, my lower lip and teeth included. The inside of my mouth was stretched from the swelling, and some points were oh so very tender from rubbing against my teeth. I was going thru a nice cocktail of Advil (800mg), Lortab and Tylenol PM. I tried my best to work from home, but found myself taking naps quite often. I ended up sleeping quite a bit for the first several days.

About a week after the surgery I woke up and didn't feel the need to instantly take my pain pills so I tried the day without them and fared well, so from then on out I haven't had to worry about too much pain. As of this writing I still don't quite have all the feeling in my chin back, but slowly day by day it's getting back to normal. I was quite proud of myself when I smiled in the mirror and it looked like a mostly normal smile.

Everyone that has known about the surgery has been very positive about the results, which is something that is obviously a relief to hear. Today at church, one of the guys that I work with could tell that something was different about me, and he remarked "You sure look different since you shaved your moustache". I never had a moustache, that was just his best guess about my looking different.

So, 2 weeks after the event, in the end I'm happy that I did it. The first few days I would've told you otherwise as it was honestly very painful and miserable, and to add to that it was self-inflicted.

Ahhh, before and after. Quite a noticeable difference actually, and yet, it hurt like hell. See Bigger, See Xray
