Grandpas Shirts

Earlier this year in February my Grandpa Jenkins passed away. This last photo of Grandpa has become a very treasured item in the family, and yesterday at a big July 24th BBQ my Aunt Peggy presented each of his 5 kids with a stuffed bear, each one made from one of his shirts, most of which we all recognized from some Christmas or holiday from years past. Yet another treasure we have to remember him from.

Lightning Thief

A saw a tip on twitter that there was lightning tonight so I grabbed my camera and new tripod (okay, it's Alicia's... what's hers is mine and mine is hers, right?) and stood out on the back deck and pointed the camera at the sky. I got lucky on this one! Looks pretty cool to me!

This week Alicia and I finally got crackin' on our announcements, which of course involved getting some photos done. Good family friend Ashlee quickly and excitedly volunteered for the job and came over to my parents where we took advantage of all the cool things in the yard. This is a nicely framed shot she took of us with our feet in the stream. Only a little more than a month away and this girl becomes my wife! Pretty excited about it!

This was the last stop of the great Motorcycle Adventure 2010 - Dead Horse Point just outside Moab. It's a very pretty view. I've adjusted the colors a little bit on this one making it a little more purple. I really like the vast expanse of everything in front of you. It's a gorgeous place to visit.

Lighting Sunset

A few days ago there was some pretty cool clouds and lightning going on so I rushed out with my camera to see what I could get. After a few minutes I handed the camera off to Alicia so I could go find my tripod and this is one of the great shots that she got. I love the golden sunset. Sadly, the lightning was all up in the clouds so I mainly got just lit up clouds. Thanks to Alicia for the great shot!

Here is a pretty popular National Park Landmark, Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. The hike is about 1.5 miles and was a little tougher than I remembered, and it kicked my butt, but that's more cause I'm out of shape. Definitely worth the hike though, and there was a lot of people up there!

Someone at the office complex that I work at has one of these; I've spotted it several times in the parking lot. I'd really really love to just ride in one, let alone own one. However, they sit around $70K brand new, so still just a pinch outside of my income level. Check it out on Top Gear (Oddly enough, I saw a different one yesterday, a black one, only it had a few cop cars behind it)

One of the later stops in the motorcycle trip was Monument Valley. It was gorgeous! And, we basically camped right on the edge as well. This view is from the visitors center but the view from our tents matched, it was amazing.

This week I hit the open road with Chris and Josh for a 5 day trip down Utah to Arizona and home again. We covered about 1200 miles and hit several National Parks. It was so much fun. I snapped this the last day at Dead Horse Point from the hip and actually quite like it. The edges are caused by my filter system, and then the texturing was added in Photoshop.

Mount Timpanogos Temple

For the last few weeks my friend Brody has been waiting on me to go over to the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and shoot a nice photo for him to hang in his house. He saw some good ones at Deseret Book but opted to save some cash and let me have a whirl at it. Today was a lovely post-rainy morning with clean fluffy clouds in the sky and it made a perfect setting. Out front were several couples and photographers taking wedding photos, but in the back it was pretty much vacant. This is by far the best shot I've done of the temple, and one of the best I've seen if I do say so myself. Order it off Smugmug here.
